Ingredients
For the Banana Pudding Layer:
- 3 ripe bananas, sliced
- 1 package vanilla wafer cookies (about 1 ½ cups)
- 1 (5.1 oz) package instant vanilla pudding mix
- 2 ½ cups milk
- 1 (8 oz) container whipped topping (or homemade whipped cream)
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
For the Tiramisu Layer:
- 1 (8 oz) container mascarpone cheese, softened
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup brewed coffee, cooled (or espresso)
- 1 tbsp dark rum or coffee liqueur (optional)
For the Caramel Sauce:
- 1 cup sugar
- ½ cup heavy cream
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Banana Pudding Layer
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the instant vanilla pudding mix and milk. Let it set in the refrigerator for about 5 minutes until it thickens.
- Once thickened, gently fold in the whipped topping (or whipped cream) and vanilla extract until smooth.
Step 2: Prepare the Tiramisu Layer
- In a separate large bowl, whisk together the mascarpone cheese, heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract.
- Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed until thick and creamy, about 2-3 minutes.
Step 3: Prepare the Caramel Sauce
- In a medium saucepan, heat the sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly until it melts and turns amber in color.
- Carefully add the heavy cream (it will bubble up) and continue stirring until smooth.
- Stir in the butter, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Allow the caramel to cool slightly.
Step 4: Assemble the Dessert
- In a large serving dish or individual glasses, layer the vanilla wafers at the bottom.
- Spoon half of the banana pudding mixture over the cookies, spreading evenly.
- Add a layer of sliced bananas on top of the pudding.
- Next, dip the ladyfingers into the cooled coffee (and rum or coffee liqueur if using) and arrange them on top of the banana layer.
- Spread half of the tiramisu mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
- Repeat the layers: another layer of vanilla wafers, followed by the rest of the banana pudding, sliced bananas, and the remaining tiramisu mascarpone mixture.
Step 5: Chill and Serve
- Cover the dessert and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight to allow the flavors to meld together.
- Just before serving, drizzle with the caramel sauce and add extra banana slices or vanilla wafer crumbles for decoration.
Step 6: Enjoy
- Scoop and serve this decadent Banana Pudding Tiramisu with Caramel for a show-stopping dessert!
