- Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned and cooked through (about 7–8 minutes).
- Drain any excess fat and set the beef aside.
Step 2: Sauté the Aromatics
- In the same pot, add onions, garlic, red and green bell peppers.
- Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are softened.
Step 3: Build the Flavor
- Stir in the tomato paste, cooking for 1 minute to enhance its richness.
- Return the cooked ground beef to the pot.
- Add all the spices, salt, black pepper, and brown sugar, stirring well.
Step 4: Simmer the Chili
- Pour in the diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and beef broth.
- Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and let it cook uncovered for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Step 5: Add the Beans & Final Simmer
- Stir in the kidney beans, black beans, and corn (if using).
- Let the chili simmer for another 15–20 minutes until thickened and flavorful.
- Stir in Worcestershire sauce for added umami depth.
Step 6: Taste & Adjust
- Taste the chili and adjust seasoning if needed—add extra chili powder or cayenne for more heat.
