This easy apple crisp is made the old-fashioned way, with sweet, spiced apples and a buttery oat topping. Perfectly baked to golden brown and served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and salted caramel sauce, it’s the ultimate cozy dessert for fall!
Ingredients
For the Spiced Apples:
- 6 golden delicious apples, peeled and chopped (or sliced)
- 2 Tbsp granulated sugar
- 3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 1/2 tsp lemon juice
For the Crisp Topping:
- 1 cup light brown sugar
- 3/4 cup old-fashioned oats (quick oats can be used)
- 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- Pinch of kosher salt
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, diced into small cubes
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat to 350°F and butter an 8×8 baking dish or spray with non-stick cooking spray.
- Make the Spiced Apples: In a mixing bowl, toss the chopped apples with granulated sugar, 3/4 tsp cinnamon, and lemon juice. Transfer to the prepared baking dish.
- Make the Topping: In a separate bowl, combine brown sugar, oats, flour, 1 tsp cinnamon, and salt. Use a pastry cutter, two forks, or your hands to cut in the cold butter until the mixture forms pea-sized crumbs.
- Assemble and Bake: Spread the topping over the apples and gently pat down. Bake for 40-50 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
