These heart-shaped chocolate chip cookies are soft, chewy, and packed with gooey chocolate chips! Perfect for Valentine’s Day, anniversaries, or anytime you want to bake something special for your loved ones. No cookie cutters? No problem! I’ll show you how to shape them easily by hand.
Ingredients (Makes 12-15 cookies)
- 2 1/4 cups (280g) all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup (170g) unsalted butter, melted
- 3/4 cup (150g) brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup (100g) granulated sugar
- 1 large egg + 1 egg yolk (room temperature)
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup (180g) chocolate chips (semi-sweet, dark, or milk chocolate)
Instructions
1. Mix the Dough
- In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
- In a separate large bowl, whisk melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth.
- Add egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated.
- Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips. Cover and chill dough for 30 minutes (optional but helps prevent spreading).
2. Shape the Cookies
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Scoop about 2 tablespoons of dough per cookie and roll into balls.
- To make heart shapes, pinch the bottom of each dough ball slightly and press the top down to form a heart. Alternatively, flatten them slightly and use a small heart-shaped cookie cutter.
3. Bake & Cool
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden but the centers are still soft.
- Let cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
