Description

This Hoisin Pork Tenderloin is tender, juicy, and infused with bold flavors from a rich hoisin glaze. The combination of sweet, salty, and umami notes creates a mouthwatering caramelized coating on perfectly cooked pork.

It’s a dish that strikes the perfect balance between comfort and sophistication — simple enough for a weekday dinner, yet elegant enough to serve to guests. Serve it sliced over rice, noodles, or steamed vegetables for a restaurant-quality meal made at home.

Ingredients

For the Pork Marinade:

  • 1 pork tenderloin (about 450 g / 1 lb)
  • 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon honey or brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
  • ½ teaspoon chili flakes (optional, for heat)

For Garnish and Serving:

  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish
  • Steamed jasmine rice or noodles, for serving

Instructions

  1. Marinate the pork:
    • In a bowl, whisk together hoisin sauce, soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and chili flakes.
    • Place pork tenderloin in a resealable bag or dish, pour in the marinade, and coat well.
    • Marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 4 hours for deeper flavor.
  2. Preheat and prepare:
    • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
    • Remove pork from marinade, reserving excess marinade for later.
  3. Sear the pork:
    • Heat a drizzle of oil in a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat.
    • Sear the pork for 2–3 minutes per side until browned all over.
  4. Roast the pork:
    • Brush the reserved marinade over the pork.
    • Transfer the skillet to the oven and roast for 15–18 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 145°F (63°C).
  5. Rest and glaze:
    • Remove pork from oven, cover loosely with foil, and rest for 5–10 minutes before slicing.
    • Drizzle any remaining pan sauce over the slices for extra flavor.
  6. Serve:
    • Garnish with sesame seeds, green onions, and cilantro.
    • Serve with steamed rice, noodles, or stir-fried vegetables.

Tips & Tricks

  • Don’t skip the sear! It helps lock in juices and create that gorgeous caramelized crust.
  • Resting the meat before slicing keeps it tender and juicy.
  • Adjust sweetness: If you prefer less sweet flavor, reduce honey or add a splash more soy sauce.
  • Extra glaze: Simmer leftover marinade for 2–3 minutes and use as a dipping sauce.

Variations

  • Spicy Hoisin Pork: Add chili paste or sriracha for an extra kick.
  • Grilled version: Grill the marinated pork over medium-high heat for 15–20 minutes, turning occasionally.
  • Asian fusion tacos: Slice pork and serve in soft tortillas with slaw and sriracha mayo.
  • Vegetable boost: Add roasted carrots, bok choy, or broccoli on the side for a balanced meal.

FAQs

Q: Can I use pork loin instead of tenderloin?
Yes, but cooking time will be slightly longer. Use a meat thermometer to avoid overcooking.

Q: Can I make this ahead of time?
You can marinate the pork overnight or roast it in advance, then gently reheat before serving.

Q: How do I store leftovers?
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in a pan with a splash of water or sauce.

Serving Suggestions

  • Serve over jasmine rice, garlic noodles, or fried rice.
  • Pair with stir-fried vegetables or a crisp Asian slaw.
  • Drizzle with extra hoisin glaze and sprinkle with sesame seeds for presentation.
  • Great with a side of miso soup or spring rolls for a complete Asian-inspired dinner.

  • 2 tsp sesame oil

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger

  • 1/2 tsp chili flakes (optional, for heat)

  • For the Pork:

  • 1 pork tenderloin (about 500–600 g / 1.25 lb)

  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

  • For Garnish:

  • 1 green onion, finely sliced

  • 1 tsp toasted sesame seeds

Directions

  • In a bowl, whisk together hoisin sauce, soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and chili flakes.
  • Marinate the pork:

  • Sear the pork:
