Introduction

If you’re craving a dish that brings together the perfect balance of sweet and savory, look no further than this Honey Garlic Chicken. The sticky, flavorful glaze made with honey, garlic, soy sauce, and a hint of ginger coats the chicken to create a juicy, tender meal that’s nothing short of delicious. Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner, this dish will have your taste buds dancing. Itโ€™s simple, yet loaded with flavor, and it pairs wonderfully with rice, roasted veggies, or even a fresh salad.

Ingredients (in Grams)

For the Chicken

  • 450g boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or thighs)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ยฝ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch (optional for crisping)

For the Honey Garlic Sauce

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 60g honey
  • 60ml soy sauce (low-sodium preferred)
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (or rice vinegar)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced
  • ยฝ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional, for garnish)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Chicken

  1. Start by seasoning the chicken with salt and pepper.
  2. If you prefer a crispy coating, lightly dust the chicken with cornstarch on both sides. This is optional but gives the chicken a nice crisp texture when seared.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Step 2: Cook the Chicken

  1. Add the chicken breasts to the skillet. Cook for 5-7 minutes per side, or until the chicken is golden brown on the outside and fully cooked through.
  2. Once cooked, remove the chicken from the skillet and set it aside to rest.

Step 3: Make the Honey Garlic Sauce

  1. In the same skillet, add 2 tablespoons of olive oil.
  2. Sautรฉ the minced garlic and ginger for 1-2 minutes, until fragrant and softened.
  3. Stir in the honey, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, and red pepper flakes (if using).
  4. Let the sauce simmer for about 3-4 minutes, allowing it to thicken slightly.

Step 4: Combine Chicken and Sauce

  1. Return the cooked chicken to the skillet.
  2. Spoon the honey garlic sauce over the chicken and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the chicken to soak up the flavors of the sauce.
  3. Flip the chicken a couple of times to ensure itโ€™s evenly coated in the glaze.

Step 5: Serve & Garnish

  1. Remove the skillet from heat and let the chicken rest for a couple of minutes.
  2. Slice the chicken and drizzle the remaining sauce over the top.
  3. Garnish with sesame seeds and fresh parsley. Serve immediately with your favorite sides.

Tips and Tricks

1. Want Extra Crispness?

  • For an extra crispy crust, after dusting the chicken with cornstarch, pan-fry it in a bit of oil until golden before simmering in the sauce.

2. Add Some Veggies

  • Serve with steamed or sautรฉed broccoli, bell peppers, or snap peas for a well-rounded meal. You can even stir in baby spinach right before serving to add some greenery.

3. Make it Spicy

  • If you love a bit of heat, increase the red pepper flakes or even add a touch of sriracha to the sauce.

4. Make It a Meal Prep Favorite

  • This Honey Garlic Chicken stores well in the fridge for up to 3 days. Make extra sauce to toss with your meal prep veggies or rice for an easy lunch!

5. Use Chicken Thighs for Juicier Meat

  • If you prefer more juicy chicken, opt for boneless, skinless chicken thighs instead of breasts. They are more forgiving and stay tender.
