Oreo Truffles (also known as Oreo Balls) are a rich, decadent, and easy-to-make dessert that combines the beloved flavors of Oreo cookies and cream cheese, all coated in smooth chocolate. These bite-sized treats are perfect for holiday celebrations, parties, or anytime you need a quick and indulgent sweet treat. With only three ingredients, they come together in no time and are always a hit with everyone!
Ingredients:
- 1 package (15.25 oz) Oreo cookies (about 36 cookies)
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips (or white chocolate, for a twist)
- 1 teaspoon vegetable oil (optional, for smooth coating)
Instructions:
- Crush the Oreos:
- Place the Oreo cookies in a food processor or blender and pulse until they are finely crushed into crumbs. If you don’t have a food processor, you can also place the Oreos in a sealed plastic bag and crush them with a rolling pin.
- Mix with Cream Cheese:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the crushed Oreos with the softened cream cheese. Use a spatula or your hands to mix until well combined. The mixture should have a dough-like consistency.
- Shape the Truffles:
- Scoop out about a tablespoon of the Oreo mixture and roll it into a ball. Place each ball on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Continue shaping the rest of the mixture into balls, ensuring they are all evenly sized.
- Chill the Truffles:
- Refrigerate the Oreo balls for about 30 minutes to help them firm up before dipping in chocolate.
- Prepare the Chocolate Coating:
- While the truffles are chilling, melt the chocolate. You can do this by placing the chocolate chips (and vegetable oil, if using) in a microwave-safe bowl and microwaving in 20-30 second intervals, stirring after each interval until completely smooth. Alternatively, you can melt the chocolate using a double boiler on the stovetop.
- Coat the Truffles:
- Once the Oreo balls are firm, use a fork or toothpick to dip each ball into the melted chocolate. Ensure the ball is completely coated, then tap off any excess chocolate. Place the coated truffles back on the parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Chill Again:
- Return the chocolate-coated Oreo truffles to the fridge for another 30 minutes to let the chocolate harden.
- Serve:
- Once the truffles are fully set, they are ready to enjoy! Serve immediately or store them in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week.
Optional Toppings or Variations:
- Drizzle with melted white chocolate for a decorative touch.
- Sprinkle crushed Oreos or holiday sprinkles on top before the chocolate hardens.
- Roll the truffles in cocoa powder or crushed nuts for an extra layer of flavor.
