Sesame Chicken

If you love crispy, sticky, and flavorful Asian-style chicken, this Sesame Chicken is a must-try! This homemade version is better than takeout, featuring golden crispy chicken bites tossed in a sweet, savory sesame sauce that’s perfectly balanced.

Serve it over steamed rice or stir-fried vegetables for an easy and satisfying meal in under 30 minutes!


Ingredients (Serves 4-6)

For the Chicken:

  • 500g (1 lb) boneless, skinless chicken breast or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • ½ cup cornstarch
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ cup water (if needed for batter)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)

For the Sesame Sauce:

  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey (or brown sugar)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch, dissolved in 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds

For Garnish:

  • 2 tablespoons chopped green onions
  • Extra sesame seeds

Instructions

Step 1: Prep the Chicken

1️⃣ In a bowl, mix cornstarch, flour, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
2️⃣ Dip the chicken pieces into the beaten egg, then coat in the dry mixture.


Step 2: Fry the Chicken

3️⃣ Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
4️⃣ Fry the chicken in batches for 4-5 minutes, turning occasionally, until golden brown and crispy.
5️⃣ Remove and drain on paper towels.


Step 3: Make the Sesame Sauce

6️⃣ In a saucepan, whisk together soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, and cornstarch slurry.
7️⃣ Cook over medium heat until the sauce thickens (about 2-3 minutes).


Step 4: Toss & Serve

8️⃣ Add the crispy chicken to the saucepan and toss until fully coated in the sesame sauce.
9️⃣ Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions.

🍽️ Serve over steamed rice, noodles, or stir-fried veggies for a complete meal!
