Ingredients:
- 900g beef chuck roast (or brisket)
- 15ml olive oil
- 1 packet onion soup mix (about 28g) or homemade onion seasoning
- 240ml beef broth
- 240ml water
- 10ml Worcestershire sauce
- 5g garlic powder
- 5g dried thyme
- 5g dried rosemary
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 4-6 sandwich rolls (hoagie buns or French baguettes)
- 120g sliced provolone or Swiss cheese (optional, for topping)
Instructions:
- Sear the Beef:
- Heat 15ml olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear 900g beef roast for 3-4 minutes per side until browned. This step adds flavor and locks in juices.
- Add to Slow Cooker:
- Transfer the seared beef to your slow cooker.
- Prepare the Broth:
- In a separate bowl, combine 240ml beef broth, 240ml water, 10ml Worcestershire sauce, 5g garlic powder, 5g dried thyme, 5g dried rosemary, and onion soup mix. Stir well and pour this mixture over the beef in the slow cooker.
- Cook:
- Cover the slow cooker and cook the beef on low for 7-8 hours or high for 4 hours until the beef is tender and easily shreddable.
- Shred the Beef:
- After cooking, shred the beef using two forks directly in the slow cooker. Stir the meat into the delicious broth.
- Prepare the Sandwiches:
- Slice your sandwich rolls and toast them lightly under a broiler for a minute or two (optional).
- Pile the shredded beef onto the rolls, then top with 120g sliced provolone or Swiss cheese (optional). Place the sandwiches under the broiler for another minute to melt the cheese.
- Serve:
- Serve the sandwiches with a side of the cooking broth for dipping.
