  • ยฝ cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

3. Prepare the Sauce for Potatoes

  1. In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add garlic and onions, sautรฉ for 2โ€“3 minutes until fragrant.
  2. Sprinkle flour over the mixture and stir to form a roux. Cook for 1 minute.

Tips for Perfect Smothered Pork Chop Casserole

  • Thinly slice potatoes: Ensures even cooking and creamy layers.
  • Donโ€™t overcook pork: Searing locks in juices; finishing in the casserole ensures tenderness.
  • Use a mix of cream and milk: Provides a rich yet smooth sauce.
  • Make ahead: Assemble the casserole a few hours before baking and refrigerate until ready.

Variations

  • Cheesy Bacon: Add crumbled cooked bacon and extra cheddar cheese on top.
  • Herb Blend: Mix rosemary, sage, or oregano into the cream sauce for depth.
  • Spicy Kick: Add ยผ teaspoon cayenne or smoked paprika to the sauce.
  • Vegetable Boost: Layer in sliced mushrooms, bell peppers, or spinach for extra nutrients.

FAQs

Q: Can I use boneless pork chops?
A: Yes, just adjust baking time slightly as they cook faster than bone-in chops.

Q: Can this be frozen?
A: Yes! Assemble without cheese, wrap tightly, and freeze up to 2 months. Thaw overnight before baking.

Q: Can I make it dairy-free?
A: Use plant-based milk, cream, butter, and dairy-free cheese alternatives.

Q: Can I prepare it ahead of time?
A: Absolutely! Assemble in the morning and bake in the evening.
