Tiramisu Recipe

Tiramisu is a classic Italian dessert that combines layers of creamy mascarpone filling, rich espresso-soaked ladyfingers, and a dusting of cocoa powder. It’s a simple yet indulgent treat that’s perfect for any occasion. With its delicate balance of sweetness and coffee flavor, this recipe is guaranteed to be a crowd-pleaser!

Ingredients:

  • 6 large egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese (room temperature)
  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee (cooled)
  • 1/4 cup coffee liqueur (optional, such as Kahlúa)
  • 1 package ladyfingers (about 24 pieces)
  • Cocoa powder (for dusting)
  • Shaved chocolate or chocolate curls (optional, for garnish)

Instructions:

Prepare the Mascarpone Cream:

  1. Whisk Egg Yolks and Sugar: In a heatproof bowl, whisk the egg yolks and sugar together until smooth. Place the bowl over a pot of simmering water (double boiler method) and whisk constantly for about 5-7 minutes, until the mixture is pale and slightly thickened. Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.
  2. Blend in Mascarpone: Once the egg mixture has cooled, fold in the mascarpone cheese using a spatula. Stir until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  3. Whip the Cream: In a separate bowl, use an electric mixer to whip the heavy cream and vanilla extract until soft peaks form. Be careful not to overwhip.
  4. Combine the Mixtures: Gently fold the whipped cream into the mascarpone mixture. Do this carefully to keep the cream light and airy.

Assemble the Tiramisu:

  1. Prepare the Coffee Mixture: In a shallow dish, combine the cooled brewed coffee and coffee liqueur (if using).
  2. Dip the Ladyfingers: Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture for 1-2 seconds – don’t soak them too long, or they’ll become too soggy. Arrange a layer of dipped ladyfingers at the bottom of a 9×13-inch dish or a similar-sized serving dish.
  3. Layer with Cream: Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers, smoothing it out with a spatula.
  4. Repeat the Layers: Add another layer of dipped ladyfingers on top of the mascarpone mixture. Spread the remaining mascarpone cream evenly over the top.

Chill the Tiramisu:

  1. Refrigerate: Cover the tiramisu with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld and the dessert to set.

Garnish and Serve:

  1. Garnish: Before serving, dust the top of the tiramisu with cocoa powder using a fine sieve. You can also add shaved chocolate or chocolate curls for extra flair.
